American Red Cross Courses

Haines City Parks and Recreation is a licensed training provider of the American Red Cross. All courses are taught by an American Red Cross certified instructor, and are held at the Lake Eva Aquatics Center. 

Water Safety Instructor

16 Years to Adult

Successful completion of this course will certify you to teach all levels of American Red Cross progressive swimming lessons. Included in the course is Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT). You must attend all class sessions, successfully complete all assignments - including the required practice teaching assignments.
Prerequisites: 16 years of age by the last class day; swim the following strokes consistent with the stoke performance charts, level 4:  25-yard continuous swim of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke, and 15-yards butterfly; maintain position on back for 1 minute; tread water for 1 minute. 

This course is offered each year in the spring.  Space is limited.

Lifeguard Training

15 Years to Adult
$150.00 per person

Certifications include: First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard Training. Prerequisites: 15 years of age by last class day; swim 300 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing; tread water for 2 minutes; complete a timed event.
Certification is valid for 2 years and is included upon successful completion of course. Must attend all class dates to be certified.

This course is offered each year in the spring.  Space is limited.

Lifeguard Training Review

17 Years to Adult
$50 per person

Must show proof of current Lifeguard Training certification. Same certifications and prerequisites as for Lifeguard Training (see above). Certification is valid for 2 years and is included upon successful completion. Must attend all class dates.
This course will be offered in conjunction with the Lifeguard Training course as needed.

Standard First Aid

13 Years to Adult

Recognize and address heat and cold emergencies, sudden illnesses and poisonings, along with first aid for everything from cuts and scrapes to muscle, bone and joint injuries.
This course will be offered as needed, based on demand.

CPR - Adult & Pediatrics With AED

13 Years up to Adult

Learn to recognize and respond to emergencies including shock, cardiac and breathing emergencies for adults, children and infants. Learn how to use Automated External Defibrillation (AED).
This course will be offered as needed, based on demand.
